SUNDAY 12 JUNE, 4-6PM performative artist presentation

SUNDAY 19 JUNE, 4-6PM report by artists on the works and residency with discussion, ‘open studio’ / exhibition This micro-residency will address Utopias of a ‘return to nature’ (inspired by anarcho-primitivist and Rousseauist discourses), culture as a tool of administration and development, idealised contexts for artistic development, the role of language in dividing existing spaces

and imagining new ones, the tension between instructions and suggestions to apprehend a landscape, building by undoing, the compression and paring down of language (e.g. with ‘hash tags’ and ‘sticky language’) and the construction of an authentic experience.

MICRO-RESIDENCY 4:

Blue Curry

http://www.bluecurry.com/

SATURDAY 25TH JUNE, 10AM-2PM AND 7PM,

presentation of the artist’s work

‘Dragging Anchor’. “This is a nautical term for a boat whose anchor does not catch on the bottom of the ocean so the boat drags along. Many times this happens while the people onboard are asleep so they wake up in the morning in a different place, on the rock … in a place they did not expect.” The artist uses this metaphor to explore the notion of Folkstone slowly and maybe reluctantly being dragged to a new place through regeneration.

‘Arrival, Departure, Return’. Operating from a disused fish shop, previously called ‘Shoreline’, TRANSIT\ION will work with local fishermen and lorry drivers, collecting images, film and audio that record their experiences of leaving and returning home. Considering Folkestone as a point from which to look out to the sea, and back into land, the artists will explore the ways these two groups relate to place; as edge, terminus or frontier.

Location LOW&HIGH 15 Tontine Street, Folkestone, CT20 1JT.
